Saint John The Theologian
Greek Orthodox Church
Philoptochos
This month we are accepting applications for the Nikolas O. Simeon Scholarship from seniors who are graduating from high school. Please see Cleopatra Nelson for information and the appropriate forms. Seniors who are intending to attend college or other post high school training should apply.
Philoptochos is pleased to announce that the team for the Bay Area Relay for Life from St. John the Theologian collected $2000.00 for the American Cancer Society. The relay was held on April 13 at the Sportsplex in League City. Unfortunately, the rainy weather prevented the Asteria dancers from performing.. However, the ten adults and five teenagers who were present walked in the rain to promote recognition of the need for more cancer research. Many thanks to my co-captain, Cleopatra Nelson and all of you who participated.

In April Philoptochos contributed $3000.00 to the expansion of the Parish Home, a project sponsored by AHEPA. Our group paid for the concrete patio behind the garage. The patio has already been useful during the Agape lunch held on Easter Sunday.
In May we are sponsoring the attendance of Presbytera Juliana at the Clergy Laity Conference and national Philptochos meeting to be held in Oklahoma.
Also St. John’s Philoptochos will hold an election this month for yearly officers. A nominating committee will propose a slate of officers, and there may be nominations from the floor. Please try to attend the meeting so that you can cast your vote. The meeting will be held the third Sunday of the month because of the Festival.
Please remember to turn in recipes that you may have for appetizers, salads, soups, main dishes, or desserts to Alice Marinos who is chair person for the cookbook project.
As we prepare for Mother’s Day weekend, let’s pray for good weather and a successful Festival,
Mary Zacharias
